Detailed Itinerary:

Day 01: On the way to the Altiplano!

We will pick you up from your selected hotel at 6:20am and drop off you to the Bus station. This is a great bus trip, more like a tour – it stops at four interesting sites along the way where you have guided tour on board. Andahuaylillas: Sistine chapel of South America: this church is one of the most beautiful examples of Andean popular religious art. Raqchi (Wiracocha God Temple): This was an Inca church of monumental dimensions; 100 meters long, 26 meters wide and 14 meters high. The temple is divided in two naves and each nave has 11 giant columns – huge! La Raya: This is the half-way point between Cusco and Puno and also the highest point (4335 meters above sea level). The landscapes here are stunning and typical Andean animals like the llama, alpaca and vicuña are common sights. It is also the geographic border between the two cultures – Quechua and Aymara. Pukara: This is the most important and oldest ceremonial center of the altiplano. There are interesting lite-sculptures and tombs.
Upon our arrival to the bus station in Puno (arrival at 5:00pm), we will take you to your hotel where you will spend the night and meet your guide who will welcome you and provide you some extra information for the following activities.

  • Accommodation: Hotel in Puno included

Day 02:Home Stay, Uros floating, Taquile & Luquina islands

After breakfast, between 7.00am to 7:30am, we will transfer you from the hotel to the port of Puno where you will board the motor boat to take you first to the floating Uros Islands, which are located 25 minutes from the port of Puno. This is one of 65 small floating islands that exist today. You will visit two, and the guide will explain a little about the history and lifestyle of the people who have lived on these islands for many years, and you will also have the opportunity to talk with the people of these islands and visit their homes to learn a little about their lifestyle. Total you will enjoy one hour of visit floating around these islands. Afterwards we will sail towards “Taquile Island”, which takes approximately two hours. The island is a traditional Quechua speaking community, full of ancient agricultural terraces and some ruins dating back to the pre-Inca times. The Taquile population was relatively isolated from the mainland until 1950s, and the importance of community and family is still very strong among them. You will then have free time to explore the Island on your own, and afterwards you will meet the group for lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, we will go down to the harbor to take a one-hour boat ride to the peninsula the community is located and Luquina.
